CDHD Discontinues Immunizations Services in Boise County

The Central District Health Department (CDHD) is today announcing the end of Immunizations services in Boise County. Effective April 1st, CDHD will no longer offer immunizations on the rotating schedule that brought nurses to Horseshoe Bend, Garden Valley and Idaho City every other month. The change is a result of low demand for the services and budget hold-backs in the current fiscal year and the anticipated budget reductions in the upcoming fiscal year beginning July 1st.

“Eliminating Immunization services in Boise County is part of an ongoing evaluation of all of our program areas,” said Russell Duke, Director of CDHD. “In the current budget climate we looked at the numbers and couldn’t justify the staff time and travel expense to provide immunizations to a handful of people.”

For all of 2008 CDHD administered just 176 immunizations in Boise County. The decision to end immunization services in Boise County was made a little easier because Dr. Mike Koenig provides immunizations at clinics in Garden Valley and Horseshoe Bend. Many residents of Idaho City already go to Boise for a variety of services, including medical appointments.

Unaffected by the change in immunizations is the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program, which will still schedule appointments in Horseshoe Bend, Garden Valley and Idaho City. To schedule a WIC appointment call 327-7488.
