Idaho’s Local Health Districts Unite in Support of Health Insurance Coverage for Low-Income Idahoans

Idaho’s seven local health districts passed a resolution during their annual statewide meeting Thursday, June 9 2016, supporting health insurance coverage for Idaho’s low-income population, often called the “gap population.”

Idaho WIC makes annual adjustment to income guidelines

Idaho’s Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) will implement new income guidelines effective July 1, 2016, that raise household income eligibility limits to help offset cost of living increases. This is an annual adjustment.

Meridian Bat Tests Positive for Rabies; Public Health Urges Precautions

A bat found in Meridian has tested positive for rabies. The bat was found in the back yard of a home in Central Meridian, and is the first bat of the year in Idaho to test positive for rabies. There is no known exposure to people or pets.

Plague Impacts Ground Squirrel Population and Pets in Ada and Elmore Counties

Health and wildlife officials warn of possible plague threat

Three cats from Elmore County, and one from Ada County have been impacted by plague since late May. Three of the cats have died from the serious illness.

Public health officials are asking anyone living or recreating in areas with ground squirrels, in or outside of the known area of impact to take precautions.
